OUR TEAM

Toby Houchens

CEO

Toby has a diverse technical and scientific background in risk management, security, intelligence, and threat assessment. With over 11 years as a US Army green beret, Toby holds multiple degrees, including a Master’s in neuroscience, a Master’s in international relations, and a PhD in big data technology. He possesses a unique blend of experience and education. His efforts in the Middle East and Africa led to strategic impacts that benefitted the regions. He has accomplished hundreds of threat and security operations in diverse threat environments.

Toby believes in intelligence’s central focus and value in all operations and strategies. This applies to school and workplace safety and security, not just to security professionals and enterprises.

Toby enjoys spending his free time outdoors fishing. In the Winter months, he enjoys skiing in the Rocky Mountains with family and friends.

Mark Gutzwiller

COO

Mark Gutzwiller is an innovative growth driver and change agent, activating unprecedented value in complex, high-demand environments. He lives in Del Mar, California, and graduated (and played football as a walk-on) at the University of Michigan. Go Wolverines. He is attending MIT Sloan in their Executive Program, studying Strategy and Innovation with an emphasis on AI/ML.

Mark’s career is marked by a strong track record of enhancing operational efficiency, fostering a culture of innovation, and navigating challenges with a data-driven approach. He is eager to foster a sense of unity and shared purpose within our teams, aligning our goals and executing our plans effectively to ensure our sustainable growth and long-term success.

Jay Powell

CRO

Jay comes to Alpha Recon with a long history of building and leading international growth for American, Asian, and European software companies with a focus on Data and AI solutions. Most recently Jay was with Screening Eagle, but has also held executive leadership positions with firms such as Qlik, IBM and SPSS. Jay’s expertise in building teams and driving solutions across cultural barriers will bring a truly global perspective to the Alpha Recon leadership team.

Jay has actively participated in multiple exits, resulting in over $4B in shareholder value creation. He brings real-world pragmatism, a deep understanding of the actual value of AI, and a passion for helping customers achieve success in every role. Jay holds an undergraduate degree from Williams College and has done extensive executive education, including programs with the University of California Berkeley. He also speaks Japanese fluently.

Jay currently resides in the Austin area and in his free time explores the Texas Hill Country on his Harley when not participating in BBQ & Chilli cook-offs!

Dylan Carlton

CTO

Dylan M. Carlton is the dynamic Chief Technology Officer, bringing over two decades of extensive experience across multiple high-impact industries, including finance, healthcare, clinical research, and US-based manufacturing. A proud alumnus of CU Boulder and MIT, Dylan specialized in AI Data Science, equipping him with cutting-edge expertise and a robust technical foundation. In addition to his professional achievements, Dylan is multilingual, fluent in both English and Spanish, which enhances his ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and drive global collaboration.Dylan is profoundly fascinated by the evolving field of AI Data Science, constantly exploring new advancements and their potential applications.

He is an avid outdoorsman, spending his free time enjoying and exploring mountainous terrains.

For the past twenty years, Dylan has been a dedicated player of “Go,” a strategic board game that hones his analytical and strategic thinking skills.

Soy Joseph

Chief Information Security Officer

Soy is a highly dedicated team player with excellent leadership and communication skills. With 25 years of hands-on experience in the IT industry, Architecting, developing, implementing, and managing solutions using a wide range of technology stack in the cloud and on-prem. Expertise and experience focused on Enterprise Security, Cybersecurity, risk assessment and remediation strategies. Work and strategy based on the adage, ‘Prevention is better than cure’. Hands-on experience with multiple domains and technology, provides an added advantage to evaluate every situation critically and to architect and implement solution. Respected as an industry expert in the Solution Architecture and Enterprise implementation of Security and Middleware Projects in the cloud and on-prem. Soy carries a Master in Computer Science from Cal State University-East Bay.
